macOS Monterey brings an exciting array of personalization features, and cursor customization is one of them. You can now locally change the fill and outline colors of the cursor to change the look and feel of your Mac. You can also restore it to its original form with a single click. Want to refresh the look of your Mac with a different cursor color? Here’s how to change it.

How to Change the macOS Cursor Outline Color

Because the cursor is so small, its original white outline is often overlooked. But this silhouette creates contrast and accentuates the main black of the hands.

Here’s how you can change it:

  1. Open System Preferences > Accessibility.

  2. In the left menu bar, under the Visual section, click Display.

  3. Here, open the Pointers tab.

  1. Click the white box to the right of the pointer outline color to open the color wheel.

  2. Drag the target on the wheel to change the outline color to your choice.

To choose exactly the color you want, Apple provides you with different formats in addition to the color wheel, such as color slides, color palettes, image palettes, and colored pencils. You can change to any of these from the mini-navigation on the Color Wheel popup and tweak to find the color you need.

How to Change the macOS Cursor Fill Color

Here’s how to change the primary color of the cursor on your Mac:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Display again.

  2. This time, click the black box to the right of the color wheel pointer fill color.

  3. Choose your favorite color and close the color wheel.

Your pointer is now fully customized to your liking.

How to restore macOS cursor color

When you want to restore the original cursor to your Mac, you can easily restore it to the default settings. To do this, click Reset on the same panel (System Preferences > Accessibility > Display).

Some other options here include:

  1. Pointer size: Drag the slider right or left to increase or decrease the cursor size. This feature is helpful for users with low vision.

  2. Shake to Position: If this option is checked, the cursor will increase immediately when shaken. This option is useful for presentations and screen recordings where it is easy to lose the cursor.

Pointer customization is just one of many features Apple has introduced with macOS Monterey. The company focuses on creating a personalized and secure experience for users.
